Historical romance author Lindsay Randall talks about everything but writing (plus a giveaway below!)…

What are your interests outside of writing? 

My answer to this question changes regularly! Right here, right now, I am having fun exploring. I’ve made a promise to myself to pay more attention to what surrounds me, so wherever I am, I take note of what I see, hear, and experience. I love different types of creative play. I’ll never get too old for playing with watercolors, finding fossils, or daydreaming! I also just began studies for a master’s in English literature, so a great deal of my time is spent researching and reading. 

Gush about your celebrity crush.

Gush? You got it! I’m a huge Franco fan—James Franco. I love, love, love the many facets of his creativity. He’s taken a deep dive into so many things. I admire his pursuit of creative outlets. I like that he views teaching as a way of giving back (very nice!). I’m looking forward to his book of poetry from Graywolf Press. Hats off, high fives, and oodles of kudos to him!

What advice would you give the younger you? 

I would say, without hesitation: “Dear, sweet, beautiful-hearted you, trust in your God-given talents, celebrate them. Slow down. Relax. Enjoy. Always choose hope and happiness. Surround yourself with those who bring you joy and with things that stir your wonder. And just plunge, heart and all, into this moment, this piece of now.”

If you could have any view from your balcony, what would it be?

Oh, fun! My view would be a changing mix of scenery from my favorite old films: The depths of Sherwood Forest shaded in the golden hues of fall; Camelot in winter, with frost sparkling on everything; and one of Sinbad’s Arabian Nights, complete with full moon and endless stars.

What do you miss about childhood?

What I miss most are those long, lazy summer days that seemed to have no end…and were followed by those equally endless nights that were filled with mystery and the flickering light of fireflies. 

You just won $100,000, and you have to spend it all on yourself today. No saving, no gifts, no charity allowed. What are you going to buy?

I would spend every penny buying myself as much forest as possible in northwestern Pennsylvania—and then I’d spend the rest of my life enjoying it and doing what I could to preserve its wildness.  

Would you rather meet your great-great grandparents or your great-great grandchildren?

As a lover of history, I’d rather meet my great-great grandparents on my mother’s side of the family—and I’d love to do so in their own setting, which would have been a sod house in Gislaved, in Sweden’s Smaland. What an experience that would be!
